When you pay your dental insurance premium every month, you assume that it will be there when you need it, right? Whether routine cleanings and preventative exams or fillings and root canals, your dental insurance picks up the cost - or at least a portion of it - so that you can maintain your oral health.
But will dental veneers be covered by insurance?
What Are Dental Veneers?
Years ago, the teeth you were born with were the teeth you had to keep. Other than having some stellar oral hygiene and getting braces, there really wasn’t much to be done to get a perfect smile.
As technology has changed over the years, you actually can have that perfect smile. All you need are veneers.
Dental veneers, also known as porcelain veneers, are (as their name suggests) porcelain covers that go over your tooth to make it look brighter, whiter, and perfectly shaped. The veneer itself is a thin shell that is made custom to fit each of your teeth. It is attached to the front, leaving the back open.
Porcelain veneers look natural and are durable and long-lasting. They can make even the most unsightly smile look beautiful.
Dental Veneers vs. Dental Insurance
Dental insurance covers a lot of preventative care, such as x-rays, cleanings, sealants, and the like. They also cover things such as fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, etc. They may, depending on your policy, cover braces, dental implants, and bridges.
What dental insurance doesn’t tend to cover are cosmetic procedures. And, since dental veneers are often referred to as a cosmetic procedure, they most generally are not covered by dental insurance.
However, depending on your personal situation - and your dentist - there are times when your dentist can demonstrate that there is a structural need for the veneers. If this is the case, while they may not cover the cost entirely, the insurance company may pay a portion of it - which can offer some financial relief. Keep in mind that this comes down to your dental insurance company, your dentist, and your oral health needs.
Most of the time, however, dental veneers will be an out-of-pocket expense.
Are Dental Veneers Worth the Cost?
Dental veneers are known to be costly. But, are they worth the cost? Let’s ask this - what price can you put on a smile?
There are many things you can spend a lot of money on that won’t last very long at all. Dental veneers, though, can bring you joy and confidence with your freedom to smile without worry. And, due to their high level of durability, they can last for years to come.
So are dental veneers worth the cost? Absolutely.
